Natures show

Sometimes nature really puts on a show. On this crisp, cold, -15°C day, I was out looking for halos. The sun, the mist, the temperature—I thought I had a good chance. And sure, I did get a little bit of a halo effect, but what I actually got was something much, much better: a once-every-blue-moon sunset that blew me away!

A sunset with every hue imaginable—blue, magenta, pink, yellow, orange, and red. All colors presenting themselves slowly as the evening went on. Personally, I was stoked since I had managed to bring all the gear I needed for once.

My main camera with three lenses, my drone for the aerial shots, and my action cameras for the ski down. I had everything, and I made the most of it. So here are some of the shots I took that day.

Location

The site where I experienced this breathtaking sunset was Rödkullen, a small crest easily reached by a short hike. The views are truly spectacular. And despite the village below being reasonably busy, there's complete silence, giving you the feeling of being on top of the world, even though you are surrounded by even higher peaks.

From the air:

So happy that I brought my drone for this sunset! It really did the scene justice.

Shot on the DJI Mavic 3. Amazing drone, with an amazing camera. Although I do wish the telephoto lens performed better. It is just a bit too noisy to be usable, in my opinion... I must say though, it does give some interesting perspectives!

Summary

This was one of those "unreal" moments in life, where you have to pinch yourself to make sure you're not dreaming. It's a moment where the expectations set were blown out of the water, and I was reminded of just how beautiful and powerful nature is.

Rödkullen is a fantastic little area, yet some propose putting a shovel to this hill and building more tourist accommodation on a large portion of the Rödkullen area. I like to think that I'm someone who values progress, someone who wants to take the next step. But I also recognize when it's best to stop and take a breather. Rödkullen is one of those times.

Rödkullen means a lot to me. Its beauty has calmed me many times, and it remains one of the few easily accessible, yet incredible, natural assets available to us residing here in Åre. I really hope that we collectively take a breather, as a town, as a society, to make sure that we don't damage what's most precious to us: Mother Nature.

Until next time Rödkullen.
