Photographing a car meet in central Östersund

The car meet buzz.

Every Wednesday evening during the summer, the town square in Östersund becomes a buzzing center of attention, as hundreds of rumbling cars roll in. The local classic car club, Jämtlands Veteranbilklubb, hosts this meet, and each week a plethora of classic, muscle, JDM, and Euro cars show up, with an average attendance of around 200 vehicles. This weekly event provides an excellent opportunity to admire some beautiful cars, or if you are like me, go around and get a few stills of some amazing automobiles.

The club.

Jämtlands Veteranbilklubb, a club dedicated to the preservation and celebration of veteran vehicles, has been active since 1970. Today the club has over 1300 members (or 2300 cars according to their website), all with a burning passion for cars.

Östersunds town square is the starting point for their wednesday drives. They all meet at 6 o'clock, and head out at 7 to different locations for a 'fika'. I think it's a great initiative, and I think it's awesome that it has gotten such traction!

The people.

One of the things I enjoyed most was the interactions I had with the owners. It's always fun to talk to people who have a passion for something, and this time was no different. I would ask a very general question about the car in front of me, and the owner would spend 5 solid minutes with me showing me around! Great fun, and I'm super thankful for all the people who took time to share their stories.
