Åre halvmaraton

A day in the sun.

Åre, as you may or may not know, isn't exactly known for stable weather. And so, as the first edition of the Åre half marathon neared, I firmly believe that everyone involved was crossing their fingers for some sunshine. And lo and behold, the weather forecast delivered!

Families first.

The organizers of the event gave me the freedom to capture whatever I wanted. The only guideline they gave me was to put some extra emphasis on the family events, since they had organized a few kids' races as well.

The 5k & the reason.

There was also a 5k race, with two passes of the new cycle path that was inaugurated during this event.

And that was the official reason behind the race: to celebrate the new cycle path that, after being a very hot topic for the past 10 years, finally came to fruition.

The new path is meant to keep cyclists and pedestrians safe from the crazy traffic on the main road (road E14), and its completion meant that it was possible to run a full-length half marathon on asphalt without ever coming in contact with the E14.

The half marathon

After the kids races, and the 5k, it was finally time for the main attraction. The first edition of the Åre half marathon.

I stood at the startline, and felt the wind from hundreds of runners brush me as they rushed past. Immediately after the start I got my drone back up into the air, and got a few aerials before finally heading out to the nutrient & water stations to snap a few final pics.
