“Ooo-Aaah-Marmelad…

…Ooo-Aaah Marmelad!” the crowd chants, as Marmeladorkestern gets back on stage to play one last song.

It is Good Friday in Åre, and the Easter holidays have, as usual, brought thousands of tourists to the village, to enjoy some of that slushy and sunny spring skiing. By the end of the day, these tourists usually spread out to the different afterski spots in town, many hundreds of whom usually end up at Verandan.

Verandan is one of — if not, the most — well-known afterski spots in Åre, and it has held that reputation for many years. This old, historic building can host up to 600 party animals at once and is surrounded by some of the village’s wildest party stories.

But those stories wouldn’t exist without the amazing live bands that bring this mythical stage to life — one of which is none other than Marmeladorkestern!

Party legends!

If you’ve lived in Jämtland for any length of time, you will have heard of Marmeladorkestern. This legendary four-piece cover band has party music and crowd engagement on lock — and they’ve been doing it for over two decades! They’re icons of the afterski scene, having entertained thousands upon thousands of drunk skiers throughout the years.

They are the band that places like Verandan call when they want to be sure that people will chant, dance, and drink large quantities of alcohol for an hour straight!

Marmelad’s afterski program is textbook quality and never fails to get people on their feet. Every song, every chant, every line oozes 20+ years of afterskiing experience.

It is this well-oiled party machine that makes Marmeladorkestern the standard for afterskis. Simply put, they are legends of the Åre afterski sphere.

Afterski Challenges

As a photographer, shooting afterskis is always a blast. Everyone’s in a great mood, ready to party, and eager to have their photo taken. It’s the perfect setting for candid crowd shots.

That said, afterskis come with their own set of challenges — mainly the crowds. Even tonight, with Verandan not at full capacity, it was tough to move around.

Catch some of the action in the short clip below.
